OVERVIEW:
Kitfox owner training is designed for current tailwheel pilots only.
KITFOX BUILDERS
You know your airplane intimately. You’ve spent a lot of blood, sweat and tears building it from scratch. It’s taken months, if not years to complete. However, you may not know the flight characteristics and how best to fly it. The last thing you want to do is go bend your pride and joy. Spending a day or two training with us is a priceless investment towards a safe, enjoyable, flying future in your Kitfox future flying your Kitfox. We’ll not only offer to teach you how best to fly a Kitfox, but also guide & prepare you for your first flight, and the subsequent Phase 1 (40 hours or task -based) test flying needed to write the pilot operating handbook that remains with the airplane for the rest of it’s life.
KITFOX BUYERS
Have you purchased a factory-built Kitfox, or a gently used Kitfox? Common sense as a pilot suggests, and often insurance requires, some hours of “Type” training (transition from what airplane you’re familiar). Type training is offered in our Kitfox only (with limited exceptions – known builder, or factory-assist build). After spending a day (maybe 2) in local front country “Type” training – consider immediately following up with advanced Backcountry training – the environment the Kitfox was specifically designed for.
If you’ve not yet bought a Kitfox, but are ready to get some “time-in-type” training under your belt, this is a great opportunity to prepare for your purchase (See Demo/1st lesson page).
If you are seeking a Tailwheel Endorsement in addition to Kitfox Owner “type” training, we only offer Tailwheel endorsements to builders or buyers of LIKE-KIND Kitfox versions & configurations.
For Example (based on performance, sight picture, and components):
If you are building a Series 7 with 912 or 914 – we refer to:
Halterman Aviation – just north of Dallas Texas Halt-av.com
Adventure Flying – seasonally Cascade Idaho & Reno Nevada Advflying.com
Due to insurance constraints, company liability considerations, and the responsibility to best support the Kitfox-specific community:
- Our instructors only offer “Tailwheel Endorsements” to Kitfox-specific builders, or to owners of a LIKE-KIND Kitfox version.
- We do not offer “Tailwheel Endorsements” to student pilots, unless the student pilot is finishing their training to a pilot license with us in a Kitfox.
- In addition, we do not offer “Tailwheel Endorsement” training until the pilot has at least 100 additional hours of PIC flight time experience – post the hours from being licensed.
- Exceptions might be made on a case by case basis.
