Whether you’re shopping for a used Kitfox or are ordering a custom factory-built Kitfox, learning about and flying a Kitfox before you buy is a great place to start.
Stick & Rudder Aviation is the one and only “Kitfox Aircraft” factory-endorsed flight school in the world. We offer comprehensive type-training and advanced Backcountry training for builders and buyers of Kitfox’s.
Our training environment, specialized instructors and great weather allows for a unique experience to explore the corners of a Kitfox flight envelope in the open environment it was specifically designed for – beautiful Idaho.
Based on the high demand to serve the training needs of the Kitfox-specific community – we only offer sales Demonstration flights / 1st lessons once in contact with, and referral from, the Kitfox Aircraft factory. We will no longer offer “For amusement – seen it on social media” flights.
WHAT WE FLY:
Standard wing Series 7 Super Sport and the STi / Monster Shock version
- STi version: High-lift wing and monster gear, turbo-charged, fuel-injected 915is 141HP w/ MT constant-speed prop
- Super Sport version (wing): 915is with MT constant speed prop
- Garmin G3x panels - auto pilot
- “Stock Flight Systems" - Engine Monitoring Unit (EMU) - STi with single-lever electronic prop control
- Flight instruments presented in tape or analog (round gauge) format
- Bose active noise-cancelling headsets
- Airframes Alaska “Airstreak” bush tires & T-3 tailwheel suspension.
DEPOSIT & CONTRACT:
We require a $400 deposit to reserve your demonstration flight. Once we receive your deposit, we will send you a confirmation of your reservation.
Your deposit is non-refundable if you cancel within 60 days of your reservation. We will hold the deposit on account for 6 months in the hopes you will reschedule. Your deposit will be used towards your training balance. If a deposit balance remains at the completion of your training, you will be sent a credit check by postal mail.
A signed contract is required along with your deposit. Please include when mailing your deposit.

HOW MUCH IS A DEMO FLIGHT?
Our demo flights (1st lesson) are approximately $400 which includes at least one hour of preparatory ground schooling (depending on your background and questions), plus approximately one hour of flight (depending on your goals and experience). Additional time is charged at $95/hour for the instructor and $225/hour for the Kitfox Super Sport ($220 for the STi).

WHEN CAN I COME?
Demonstration/1st Kitfox lesson flights typically take place in the afternoon, after 15:30, after the AM training clients already reserved on the schedule and by appointment only. Please complete our contact form and provide us with a range of dates you’re interested in so that we may find a window to accommodate you. Please note, we are often fully booked with multiple-day training clients, several months in advance.

FOR A TOUR OF THE KITFOX AIRCRAFT FACTORY
If you’re interested in visiting the factory, please contact them directly to arrange a tour. They are open from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. There will not be time after our 15:30 flight for a factory tour. Please plan your factory tour before our flight or the following morning.
If you are visiting from outside the Boise area, the logistics of your visit will probably require an overnight stay. Click here for our recommendations on the area’s most comfortable lodging.

ARRIVE AT YOUR SCHEDULED TIME
Please do not arrive early! We will be finishing post flight discussion, in the privacy and quiet of our hangar, with the previous client.
BRING WITH YOU
Wear flat, light-weight shoes. A tailwheel pilot needs to feel the rudder pedals. Also bring your log book if you would like to document your flight training time towards a future tailwheel endorsement. We supply Bose active noise cancelling headsets.
