About Me
Stick & Rudder Aviation is a Kitfox-Specific flight school, offering a brand-new 2010 Kitfox “Super Sport” special light sport aircraft (S-LSA) – tailwheel configured – for your Mountain Flying Proficiency, Tailwheel endorsement, or Sport Pilot license training.
The success of this flight school is due largely in part to it's close working relationship and support of the aircraft manufacturer (Kitfox Aircraft LLC). Our often mutual clients are not only offered the well-rounded guidance in the behind-the-scenes manufacturing process of their Kitfox, but the Kitfox-specific flight training once their Kitfox rolls out the factory doors. Both companies here share the motivation and vision to promote a historically safe; well-designed and tested; quality-built; beautiful-handling; and great-performing American-Made aircraft – the Kitfox “Super Sport”
Our Kitfox is conveniently located at the Boise International Airport (BOI) – just 30 air miles away from a fly-in visit to the Kitfox Aircraft factory. Our Kitfox is in a secure private hanger – with ground services professionally supported by Western Aircraft http://www.westair.com/fbo
Our Boise location offers an ease of airline access for our out-of-town clients, a wide range of competitively-priced national chain hotels, and quite the culinary opportunities for the foodie crowd.
Stick & Rudder Aviation operates Year-Round – with Boise and the surrounding Treasure Valley being in the rain shadow of the most severe Pacific Northwest storms – our moderate equal seasons offers more blue-sky flying days than not. The 70 plus un-paved back country airstrips remain open from the winter snows – May through October
Flight training is scheduled on a first come-first served basis – and is conducted with a “this is not a test'” approach and should always remain fun, challenging, and rewarding.
The flight training programs are tailor-made to the individual's dreams and requirements. Flight training can be obtained for as simple as a bi-annual flight review, to a tail wheel endorsement, and on to a Sport Pilot, Recreational, or Private Pilot license.
Stick & Rudder Aviation is unique to flight schools in general, in that we also offer the rental of our Kitfox (post-training or endorsement) to our clients for their enjoyment, and backcountry adventures and to maintain their proficiency.
Paul Leadabrand is the founder, corporate managing member, and primary flight instructor.
Paul grew up with flying parents, in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, and has made a career as a pilot.
Paul has background as a Mountaineer, Search & Rescue instructor, Paramedic, Fire-fighter, Forest Ranger, Para-professional Archaeologist, Law Enforcement officer, and White Water Raft guide...but he has always been a pilot.
The majority of Paul's 14,000 hour flying career has been in the on-demand charter or corporate segment of general aviation – from Captaining light-jets around the world, to flying air ambulance on dark & stormy nights, to ferrying single-engine aircraft across the Atlantic, to flying llamas and ice-cream into the remote airstrips in the mountain canyons of Idaho.
Paul guarantees to bring the barnstorming-like joy of flying back into flight instruction with his safe, common-sense, practical approach.
Other instructors: all being trusted close friends, and who also have flown commercially with Paul, volunteer to help out from time to time for the enjoyment of teaching in such beautiful surroundings and in such a fine aircraft. These instructors share the same enthusiasm, teaching style, and similar experience that Paul has – thereby maintaining the consistent, safe, quality flight training Stick & Rudder Aviation prides itself to offer.
